On Saturday, for our date-a-versary, Ains and I went to a new-to-me dinner spot— MUA. Which to me sounds like a kissing sound. The inside is like a hip loft meets bustling restaurant and it seemed very able to accommodate large parties. Which is something to remember should I need a restaurant for a large party in the future.
We started with cocktails and Chili Lime Fried Calamari. Which basically were just calamari but the aioli was great. My Strawberry Ginger Lemonade cocktail was a little bit like alcohol for a child because it was so sweet but not in a bad way.
Next came their Mac and Cheese which is totally a misnomer because its vegan. They somehow convert butternut squash into a cheese substitute. Delish! We also had a Caesar Salad, which was your typical Caesar Salad (But I wanted a little something green which is how it ended up on the table).
By this point we had switched to a Sancerre from the Loire Valley. It was crisp and subtle with some apple/pear tones.
The main we shared was a Blackened Catfish over dirty rice. Which is a horrible name for any food. The dirty part that is. But the fish was great.
For dessert we shared a brownie with house-made caramel ice cream. It was really good but even Ains thought that Salted Caramel Ice Cream that I made from scratch in July was better.
Our waiter was nice enough, helpful enough and had just the right amount of sass. He lost a few points for calling us “Ladies” and no one gets away with calling my boyfriend a Lady without some point sufferage.
Overall, MUA gets a thumbs up. Its nicely adaptable in that it’s cute for a date but, as I mentioned, there were several parties of 10, 15, 20 people as well. Check it out!
